Fourth Grade Book Reports
2011-2012
Book Report Description: Fourth Graders will have 4 book reports this year, one for each quarter of the school year. Every student will be encouraged to read a chapter book that is at his or her reading level and that follows our theme for the quarter. Students may borrow books from school or use books they have at home. If help is needed in locating a book, please let me know as soon as possible. After the book is chosen, please have it approved by me to make sure it is just right. Please do not choose a book that has been read before. Each book report will consist of three parts: A written report, a creative project, and an oral presentation. These parts should be completed as follows:
WRITTEN REPORT: Students will be given a choice of book report forms at school. They may pick one form and bring it home to fill out after they have finished reading the book. All writing must be completed neatly in cursive.
CREATIVE PROJECT: This is a fun way for the students to demonstrate their understanding of the book they have read! Students may pick any project for this part; suggestions are listed in the packet that was passed out in class. If any student needs another copy, please ask Mrs. Guy.
ORAL PRESENTATION: Students will read their book report form aloud and explain their creative project to the class. All students must be able to pronounce words written on their projects so it is advised that they practice reading a couple of times at home before it is time to read in class.
A rubric for how these book reports will be graded is located below; click on the link to download. Parents are encouraged to help the students, but the work needs to be done in each student's own words. Please take a look at the due dates listed below. I will be reminding the students in school of these dates, but it is very important not to save big projects such as these for the last minute!
Happy reading!
~Mrs. Guy
